The Jerky Hut, Pasadena

OKAY. If you would have told me 10 years ago, that in the future, I would eat beef jerky… I would have said “eck” and laughed in your face.

If you would have told me that in the future, I would not only be such a fan of it, that I would have graduated from the Oh Boy! Oberto brand and the more familiar (not necessarily better Slim Jim) and actually order my jerky online and pay upwards of $17 for a package… I would have said “eck”, laughed in your face – then slapped you.

Well, that being said… “Hello, my name is Amy, and… I like the Jerky.”

A friend of a friend said once, “This Jerky will change your life” and I thought, yeah right. I mean, I like jerky and stuff, but I wasn’t about to name my first child after it or anything. Well, I gotta say, after trying The Jerky Hut, jerky, I’m presently considering a few names; Little Bobby Jerk and Jerkina (for a girl, of course).

The Jerky Hut is not a restaurant or hang out. It is, a HUT. It’s headquarters are in Oregon actually. The company makes beef jerky and sells it at various markets, a few retailers and online through their website.

The Jerky Hut has a monthly residence at the famous Pasadena Flea Market at the Rose Bowl. Here you can try various dime-sized samples of their sweet, smoked or teriyaki jerky. That’s all they got, just jerky. If you don’t eat meat, I don’t think this place is for you. I’m not even sure if there is such a thing as a vegetarian jerky. It is made from beef (or turkey) after all.

However, If you DO eat meat. I recommend these guys, totally.

It’s a uniqely an American thing. Cowboys and miners took jerky on their journeys in the earlier days because it was light to transport, took up hardly any space and required no refrigeration at all. It’s no wonder I ALWAYS bring some along for road trips or camping/hiking adventures.

Their jerky is hand trimmed, marinated in secret brews and each piece is hand screened. I don’t like spicy, but for those of you that do, they have 4 levels of burn to heat your fancy.

The Jerky Hut has definately become a must-get, when I’m shopping at the Flea Market in Pasadena. I’ve gotten some for myself and purchased packs as gifts. I have even ordered it online as an impulse buy because I couldn’t wait until the next month’s market (every second Sunday of the month). It’s crazy expensive, but well worth it. You definately taste the difference from the usual grocery store stuff. It’s juicy, full of flavor, chewy and easy on the teeth. This stuff is legit. Go on, Jerk it out!

BYB Tip: They have special military discounts and neat pre-packaged gift packs.

Special Note * As always, BYB is NEVER paid for endorsements. These are just my honest to goodness opinions and reviews on stuff I like, honest. *
