When you think about the city of Portland, a bunch of things may come to mind; Beautiful nature, amazing wineries, food carts, legal weed, local/sustainable food practices, yes even strip clubs!
But then there’s also the BEER.
The amount of local brewers and quality craft beer in this city is no joke. There are a LOT. And they are GOOD.
Then there’s the fruit beer.
I didn’t even know “fruit beer” that was a thing. Let alone something popular enough to have it’s own festival.
The Portland Fruit Beer Festival is the first and largest beer fest dedicated to beers made with real fruit infused. Weird. And also very cool.
I got to attend a media preview at Burnside Brewing and was able to sample 10+ beers — just a fraction of some of the offerings that will be featured at the festival this weekend. Not to mention great food and music.
Some beverages were sour like the Finnriver Farm & Cider’s soured cider made with cranberries and honey. Other beers were tart like Stormbreaker Brewing‘s dark rye german-style beer made with boysenberries. Then there was Portland Cider Co’s yummy take on Hawaiian POG. They sampled a delicious semi-sweet pineapple, orange, guava cider that went down dangerously smooth. There was a also cider sweet like a Jolly Rancher candy and a beer bubbly like champagne mimosa. I never knew beer could beer this versatile.
Look out for some of my favorites…
Fort George Brewer had a “There will be Blood” hazy IPA infused with blood oranges and Burnside Brewing featured a delicious Wheatberry Wine made with black current, boysenberry and blackberry wheat wine — so good!
For a full list of vendors check out the festival’s website and get your tickets soon! It’s happening this weekend!!
